Life echoes back what we give to it. One afternoon, my son and I went hiking in the mountains, looking to escape the everyday hustle. While we were walking, he suddenly slipped and fell, hurting himself. “AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!” he screamed. To his surprise, his scream echoed back from the mountain: “AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!” He looked up, confused, and yelled, “Who are you?” The mountain answered, “Who are you?” Angrily, he shouted, “Coward!” The mountain responded, “Coward!” Frustrated, he turned to me, unsure of what was happening. I smiled at him, already knowing what was going on. “Watch this,” I said. Then, turning to the mountain, I yelled, “I admire you!” Sure enough, the voice responded, “I admire you!” I yelled again, “You are a champion!” And back came the response, “You are a champion!” My son stood there, amazed, but still not understanding. That’s when I decided to teach him one of life’s most important lessons.
I knelt down beside him and said, “Son, people call this an ‘echo,’ but in reality, this is life. Life gives you back everything you put into it. If you want kindness, give kindness. If you want love, show love. Just like the mountain, life is always reflecting your words, actions, and intentions. What you send out is what you’ll receive. So, remember, your life is not a coincidence; it’s a reflection of you.”
