United States lawmaker, Riley Moore

The lawmaker further criticised Beijing’s human rights record, accusing it of hypocrisy for attempting to lecture the United States on global affairs.

United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has scolded China over its reported warning to Washington against plans for military intervention in Nigeria over alleged genocide against Christians, declaring that the Asian country would not dictate America’s foreign policy.

In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, Moore expressed support for the U.S. President Donald Trump’s stance on defending persecuted Christians in Nigeria, stressing that the U.S. has a moral obligation to stand up for religious freedom.

He wrote, “President Trump is absolutely right to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering horrific persecution, and even martyrdom, for their faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

The lawmaker further criticised Beijing’s human rights record, accusing it of hypocrisy for attempting to lecture the United States on global affairs.

“China will not dictate our foreign policy to us, and we will not be lectured to by a Communist autocracy that recently arrested 30 Christian pastors for their faith and throws ethnic minorities in concentration camps,” Moore added.

His comments come amid escalating diplomatic tensions after Chinese officials warned Washington against what it termed “unwarranted interference” in Nigeria’s internal security matters, following the U.S. threat to directly intervention to protect Christian communities from ongoing violence attacks and killings.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that China declared its unwavering support for the Nigerian government, saying it stands by Nigeria as it “leads its people on the development path suited to its national conditions.”

This position was announced at a press conference on Tuesday, by the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning.

The Chinese minister was quoted as saying: “As Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, and threatening other countries with sanctions and force”.

Ning was answering a question on US President Donald Trump’s threat of military action in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government had also told President Donald Trump to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty and stay away from any plans to deploy American troops to its territory.

Daniel Bwala, an aide to President Bola Tinubu, stated this on Monday while appearing on Russia National TV.

Bwala dismissed the allegations as part of an orchestrated media campaign to paint the Tinubu administration as anti-Christian, saying independent global monitors and credible civil society organizations have found no evidence of state-backed religious genocide.
