With adrenaline pumping, I quickly gathered my sisters and ushered them outside into the frigid cold. As I glanced back at the house, I saw the smoke billowing from my mother\u2019s room, and the severity of the situation began to sink in. There, I saw the flames consuming the rug and climbing the curtains. I swiftly tore down the curtains and threw them out, then ran back inside, grabbing the burning fan and blankets. With the fan thrown away from my family and the bedding used to smother the flames, I battled the fire, ensuring my family\u2019s safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I finally emerged from the smoke-filled house, I was barely able to breathe. The firetruck arrived shortly after, and they doused the room, though I felt it was excessive. A kind neighbor named Ken, who admired my mother, even awarded me his Purple Heart. Though I didn\u2019t fully grasp its importance back then, I lost track of it over time. Reflecting now, I am deeply proud of my actions that morning. I protected my family and kept us from further hardship, proving my strength and dedication as a brother and eldest son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
