I had to pull Zack away from her after he got a little too enthusiastic with his licking. But soon enough, Zack took on the role of protector. The day he passed away was one of the hardest of our lives. We watched our daughter say goodbye to him, tears streaming down our faces. Later that evening, as she approached the stairs, we realized the painful truth: Zack wouldn&#8217;t be there to guide her up. Panic washed over her face, but in that moment, our other dog, Sam, stood up. He nudged her gently and led the way up the stairs, their bond forging a new chapter in our home.
