I\u2019m Emma, 32 years old, living in San Diego, California. My circle of friends was my chosen family; we were inseparable. Our bond was forged through countless shared moments, from late-night talks to spontaneous road trips. Among us was Mike, the heart of our group, always the one to bring laughter and light into our lives. He was taken from us suddenly, leaving a void that seemed impossible to fill. In the days following his passing, we gathered together, seeking solace and understanding in each other&#8217;s company. The pain was immense, but through our shared grief, something remarkable began to happen. We took on roles in each other\u2019s lives that Mike had once filled\u2014celebrating milestones, supporting each other through hardships, and creating new memories. In our own way, we became a family, united by the love and loss we shared.
