My Daughter Completely Forgot About My 90th Birthday \u2013 I\u2019ve Spent It Alone Until Doorbell Rang \u2013 My Story<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Patty was celebrating her 90th birthday and was eager to celebrate this major milestone with her daughter and grandchildren. However, when they didn\u2019t pitch, she ended up celebrating with an unexpected guest bearing sad news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My name is Patty, and after living for 90 years, I can confidently say that I have had a blessed and joyful life. My husband died a few years back; since then, it has only been me and my daughter, Angie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I remember my excitement as I anticipated my 90th birthday celebration. My daughter had promised that she and my grandchildren would pay me a visit and spend the day together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing my grandchildren always warmed my heart. It took me back to when my husband and I were raising Angie. My grandchildren reminded me a good deal of my daughter and looked like her too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, they also strongly resembled their father and Angie\u2019s ex-husband, John. I was ever so fond of John, so it completely broke my heart when I discovered they were getting divorced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John was the closest thing I\u2019d had to a son of my own. He was caring and had a heart of gold. To this day, he still writes me every Christmas. I dearly wish he and Angie could have worked things out, but that\u2019s how life is sometimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My birthday finally arrived, and I was over the moon with excitement. But as the day continued, I began to worry. It was going to be lunchtime, and I still hadn\u2019t heard a peep from Angie. I called her several times, but she didn\u2019t answer a single call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I tried to call Angie again, but it went straight to voicemail this time. I hoped that she couldn\u2019t answer because she was driving. But, as time passed, it dawned on me that I would regrettably spend this day alone, like many other days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou\u2019re too sweet. Care to join me for dinner?\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Then, the doorbell finally rang. If my knees weren\u2019t in the fragile state they were in, I would have leaped up that very moment. It had been a while since I\u2019d seen Angie and the kids, so this was the ultimate birthday gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I got to my glass door, my heart sank to my stomach as I saw the masculine silhouette on the other side of my glass door. I opened the door to find John waiting on the other side with flowers and gifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHappy Birthday, Ma!!\u201d John said with the warmest smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJohn?! Oh, wow! You didn\u2019t have to,\u201d I chirped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJust brought you a little something to celebrate you on this wonderful day,\u201d John said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIs that my favorite chocolate I see there? Oh, wow! You remembered?!\u201d I responded, trying my best to hide my flushed cheeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHow could I forget? It\u2019s all you\u2019d ever eat!\u201d John said, chuckling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou\u2019re too sweet. Care to join me for dinner?\u201d I asked, ushering him in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, no. I wouldn\u2019t want to intrude. I\u2019m sure you have plans. I just wanted to see your beautiful self and drop off your presents,\u201d John said modestly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNonsense! I don\u2019t have anything planned, and I\u2019d appreciate the company. Plus, I\u2019m making apple pie,\u201d I insisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cApple pie? Well, you should\u2019ve led with that,\u201d John remarked as he entered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another thing I loved about John was he was a terrific cook. This reminded me a lot of my late husband; he was also a fantastic cook. That day, John and I cooked up a storm. He insisted on doing most of the work; I was just grateful for the company. As we sat at dinner, John finally asked about Angie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVacation? And she didn\u2019t tell anyone? She just up and left? Why would she do that?\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo, are Angie and the kids going to be joining us? I\u2019d hate for her to think I was ambushing her or anything like that. I really had no intention of staying. But I\u2019m grateful I did,\u201d John said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNonsense! You are the father of my grandchildren, which makes us family. And no, I do not believe Angie will join us today,\u201d I said dejectedly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, I\u2019m sorry to hear that. You shouldn\u2019t be alone on your birthday,\u201d John remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, thanks to you, son, I\u2019m not,\u201d I said, grabbing his hand. \u201cThank you, John,\u201d I concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo problem. If you don\u2019t mind me asking, why didn\u2019t she come? Or at least the kids. I expected that they would be here. They love spending time with you,\u201d John added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey were all supposed to come, but Angie isn\u2019t answering my calls. I honestly don\u2019t know what happened, but I\u2019m sure she\u2019ll get back to me,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure what she has going on, but the least she could do is drop off the kids. I\u2019ll give her a call,\u201d John insisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John called Angie, and to my surprise, she picked up his call. John would later tell me why my daughter stood me up on my birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo, it turns out Angie, her new boyfriend, and the kids are all on vacation,\u201d John said, rather upset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVacation? And she didn\u2019t tell anyone? She just up and left? Why would she do that?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYour guess is as good as mine, Patty. Where does she get off leaving with my children without telling me a word?\u201d John responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, no. This is very disappointing. And, who is this fellow? I didn\u2019t even know Angie had a boyfriend,\u201d I said, utterly bemused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe\u2019d mentioned something in passing, but a whole vacation?! And apparently, they\u2019d been planning it for about a month now. Excuse me, Patty, but I believe your daughter\u2019s taken things a little too far this time,\u201d John said, frustrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes, this is disappointing,\u201d I said sadly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This news really caught me off guard and pierced my heart deeply. The least Angie could have done was tell me she wouldn\u2019t be around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I later had a few words with Angie myself, and she promised to visit me with the kids as soon as possible. She did not want to upset me, but the damage had been done. As my daughter, I will always love her, but I was genuinely hurt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
