As expected, the class was heavily geared towards engineering, resulting in a lopsided boy-to-girl ratio. Out of 100 students, only four were girls. Naturally, the boys took it upon themselves to dominate, behaving as if they owned the space. On the very first day, one boy made a bold statement: “Girls do not belong here.”

A year later, the tables turned. The exam results were in, and I had topped the class in computer science. To everyone’s surprise, of the top five students in the department, four were girls. It was a powerful message to everyone who had underestimated us, especially those who believed we didn’t belong in that space.

During the award ceremony, I was given a trophy for my achievement.
