The Family Man<\/em> actor, who once bought a seat on a plane for his child\u2019s imaginary friend, is now living in a \u201chostile environment\u201d created by his son\u2019s ex-wife, who\u2019s preventing him from meeting his four-year-old twin granddaughters.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When this actor was only 15, he was seated in a car with his uncle, one of Hollywood\u2019s leading filmmakers, and begged him for a chance to appear in one of his award-winning films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGive me a screen test, I\u2019ll show you acting. There was just silence in the car,\u201d said the star, who\u2019s proudly bizarre both on and off screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a 17-year-old, the actor paved his own path to stardom and earned a minor role in the 1982 hit, Fast Times at Ridgemont High<\/em>, a coming-of age cult favorite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was the brunt of jokes because my name was still Coppola,\u201d says Nicholas Cage<\/a>, who was born in 1962 as Nicholas Kim Coppola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPeople would not stop saying things like, \u2018I love the smell of Nicolas in the morning,\u2019 because of Apocalypse Now<\/em>\u2026and it made it hard to work and I said, \u2018I don\u2019t need this,\u2019 and changed it to Cage,\u201d the star explains<\/a> of dropping the surname that connected him to his famous relative, Francis Ford Coppola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, explaining why he chose Cage, he says, \u201cIt\u2019s a combination of Luke Cage<\/em> from Marvel comics, who was a character I liked, also named Power Man, and John Cage, the avant-garde composer. Speaks volumes about everything I\u2019ve been up to ever since.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His first starring role with Cage as his last name came in 1983\u2019s Valley Girl<\/em> and the anonymity he said made him feel as if he \u201chad this weight come off my body.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWow, I really can do this. And I felt liberated by that experience,\u201d he tells Hollywood Reporter<\/a>. \u201cAnd you can see<\/em> it in Valley Girl<\/em> that I\u2019m free. Whereas in Fast Times<\/em>, or even Rumble Fish<\/em>, I\u2019m somewhat stuck,\u201d he says, referring to his appearance in 1983\u2019s Rumble Fish<\/em>, a film directed by his uncle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the next several years, Cage worked in back-to-back films, earning the reputation as one of Hollywood\u2019s most sought-after actors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1988, he earned Golden Globe nominations for Moonstruck<\/em> with Cher and Honeymoon in Vegas<\/em> with Sarah Jessica Parker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was also the same year he met actor Christina Fulton, who in December 1990 gave birth to his first son, Weston Coppola Cage, an actor who appeared as the younger version of his dad in the 2014 film Rage<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cage, who earned an Oscar for his 1995 role in Leaving Las Vegas, also shares a son Kal-El (Superman\u2019s birth name) born in 2005 with his third wife Alice Kim, and daughter August Francesca (born 2022) with his fifth wife, Riko Shibata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cage was also famously married to Patricia Arquette (1995 to 2001) and Lisa Marie Presley (2002), whom he filed for divorce only months later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking with People<\/a>, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent<\/em> actor says that family comes \u201cfirst and foremost.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no version of Nick Cage in reality that doesn\u2019t want to spend time with his children\u2026There\u2019s no version of Nick Cage that didn\u2019t put family first over career,\u201d says the star of Raising Arizona<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He adds, \u201cI turned down Lord of the Rings<\/em> and I turned down Matrix<\/em> because I didn\u2019t want to go to New Zealand for three years or Australia for three years because I needed to be home with my son Weston, that\u2019s a fact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Offering evidence to that, actor Minnie Driver once said<\/a>: \u201cWas once on a plane with [Nicholas Cage] and his son and a seat had also been purchased for his son\u2019s imaginary friend.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weston Coppola Cage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To this day the Adaptation<\/em> star has a very tight bond with his children, and two of his grandchildren, Lucian (born 2014) and Sorin (2016), who Weston shares with his second wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe can do things I dream about doing\u2026compose music, sing, act, sculpt and cook and now he is a loving father,\u201d Cage said<\/a> of Weston, the former lead of two heavy metal bands. \u201cTo see my son with my grandson is as close to a sense of blissful completion I ever had.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The D-Day<\/em> star, 33, has been married three times and also shares twin daughters, Cyress and Venice, who were born in 2020 with his third ex-wife, Hila Arounian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the kids don\u2019t know any members of their famous Hollywood family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following an ugly divorce in 2021, TMZ<\/a> reports that Hila was granted \u201csole legal and physical custody of their twin daughters\u2026with Weston getting no visitation rights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explaining the distressing details, Weston\u2019s mom Christina tells the U.S. Sun<\/a>, that Hila has created a \u201chostile environment,\u201d which includes \u201ca request for a restraining order against her seeing the kids that was dismissed\u201d in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a classy, respectful Hollywood family we are appalled and shocked at how Hila could do something like this. It is devastating not to see these kids. Nicolas and I haven\u2019t been able to meet our two beautiful little granddaughters at all since they were born,\u201d Christina says of the \u201csmear campaign\u201d Hila launched against her family. \u201cWe\u2019re in a quiet, horrible nightmare. It\u2019s insane, painful, hurtful, devastating. I have a beautiful relationship with my two little boy grandchildren and my son has a beautiful relationship with his boys.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christina adds, \u201cNot meeting the girls is painful, hurtful, and shocking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defending herself, Hila shares a note on Facebook<\/a>, explaining that her ex cheated several times and was \u201cweaponizing influence, wealth,\u201d turning \u201cthe legal system against\u201d her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also calls Christina a \u201csabotaging mother\u201d and referring to Weston\u2019s mental illness along with addictions, she says that Cage is an \u201cenabling father\u201d who \u201cconsistently hindered his progress.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hila does not mention anything about denying the family visitation with the twins, only that Weston\u2019s \u201cbehavior became a physical threat to our daughters and me, as well as our emotional well-being.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christina reveals the Cage\/Coppola family isn\u2019t backing down: \u201cIn these trying times, our family\u2019s resilience is tested. But we remain committed to overcoming these challenges and restoring our family\u2019s harmony.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
