When I was 13, I was at a classmate\u2019s house and ended up staying for dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My mouth watered at the sight of the golden roast on the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As everyone began to eat, I took a bite, but her mom\u2019s sharp gaze made me freeze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In front of everyone, she declared, \u201cDid you seriously take that little? That\u2019s not nearly enough!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before I could react, she grabbed my plate and heaped it with food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was stunned but touched\u2014I think she understood just how much that meal meant to me. The food was delicious, and I savored every bite. As I ate, everyone at the table kept staring at me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next day, I came home from school and was surprised to find my friend\u2019s mom at our house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was the first time she and my mom had met.
