  1. What made you realize you could spend your lives together? Were you scared?<\/strong>
    Our bond grew stronger every day, and divorce was never an option or even a thought.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. How did you know your spouse was \u201cthe one\u201d?<\/strong>
    We were best friends before marriage. Friendship lasts a lifetime, and so did our marriage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Would you change anything after 80+ years of marriage?<\/strong>
    Nothing at all. There\u2019s no secret to marriage; we simply did what was right for each other and our family. (Maybe that\u2019s the secret!)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Advice for finding Mr. Right?<\/strong>
    Zelmyra: Mine was just around the corner. Keep the faith\u2014when you meet him, you\u2019ll know.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Best marriage advice received?<\/strong>
    Respect, support, and communicate. Be faithful, honest, and true. Love with all your heart.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Most important attributes of a good spouse?<\/strong>
    Zelmyra: A hard worker and a good provider. Herbert gave his best despite hard times.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Fondest Valentine\u2019s memory?<\/strong>
    Zelmyra: Herbert cooked dinner for me! His gesture and my clean plate said it all.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. How did you grow as individuals but not apart?<\/strong>
    We celebrated every success together. As individuals, we accomplished more as a team.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Fondest memory of your 85-year marriage?<\/strong>
    Our legacy: 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Does communication improve with time?<\/strong>
    Yes. With our children grown, we enjoy talking more and relaxing together.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. How did you handle long separations?<\/strong>
    Herbert: When Z was hospitalized, her mother\u2019s help kept me sane during that difficult time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  12. What\u2019s key after a bad day?<\/strong>
    Marriage isn\u2019t a contest. Remember, you\u2019re on the same team to win together.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  13. Is fighting important?<\/strong>
    Never physically! Disagree respectfully and fight for what truly matters. Bend, don\u2019t break.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  14. What transcends everything in your marriage?<\/strong>
    Our shared faith in God. Marriage is a commitment to Him, and we prayed daily.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Zelmyra and Herbert were married for 87 years. Herbert passed in 2011 at 105, followed by Zelmyra in 2013 at 105. Their love and advice inspire us all. Share this wisdom!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
