Over breakfast the next morning, Christopher sat quietly, pushing his cereal around the bowl. His mother, Lacey Corbin, noticed his unusual silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cChris, honey, what\u2019s wrong?\u201d she asked, sitting beside him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christopher hesitated, his small shoulders slumping. \u201cYou won\u2019t believe me,\u201d he whispered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a monster in my closet,\u201d Christopher confessed. \u201cIt walks around at night and eats food from the kitchen. I think\u2026 one day, it\u2019ll eat me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lacey fought the urge to laugh but stopped when she saw the fear in her son\u2019s eyes. \u201cAlright, Chris,\u201d she said gently. \u201cI\u2019ll put a nightlight in your room. Monsters hate light\u2014they melt when they see it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christopher smiled faintly, but the next morning, he was just as frightened. \u201cMom, I saw its shadow! The light didn\u2019t work!\u201d he cried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Determined to ease her son\u2019s fears, Lacey came up with another plan. \u201cWe\u2019ll catch this monster together,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ll set up the old nanny cam in your room tonight. If anything moves, we\u2019ll see it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Startling Discovery<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The next morning, Lacey sat with Christopher at the kitchen table, ready to prove there was no monster. She uploaded the nanny cam footage and hit play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her jaw dropped. On the screen, the closet door creaked open, and a small figure emerged. Lacey froze as she watched the mysterious figure scuttle around Christopher\u2019s room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere really is<\/em> something in your closet,\u201d she whispered. She bolted upstairs, flung open the closet door, and moved the toy boxes aside. In the far corner, curled into a ball, was a little boy about Christopher\u2019s age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHey there,\u201d Lacey said softly, kneeling down. \u201cI\u2019m Lacey. What\u2019s your name?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The boy\u2019s tear-streaked face looked up. \u201cVictor,\u201d he murmured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, Victor,\u201d Lacey said, offering her hand, \u201chow about we go downstairs for breakfast? Christopher thought you were a monster!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not a Monster, but a Boy in Need<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Christopher was astonished when his mother introduced him to Victor. Relief washed over him as he realized Victor wasn\u2019t a monster at all. Over pancakes, Victor told his story. He had attended Christopher\u2019s birthday party two weeks earlier with a neighbor\u2019s child and had liked the Corbin family so much he decided to stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat about your mom and dad?\u201d Lacey asked gently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the months that followed, Lacey applied to adopt Victor. The court eventually granted her request, and Victor officially became part of the Corbin family. He and Christopher grew inseparable, their bond transforming them into not just brothers but best friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
