Ash Putnam, from California, has gone viral<\/a> on TikTok<\/a> after sharing that it can be difficult to find employment when covered in inkings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She uploaded a video titled: \u201cIt\u2019s impossible to find jobs right now!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The clip has amassed millions of views and comments but instead of receiving support she\u2019s been cruelly trolled \u2013 with some saying she \u2018should work at a circus.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a video on TikTok, Putnam discussed applying for a job at TJ Maxx, an apparel and home goods company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She told viewers: \u201cI applied for a job at TJ Maxx a few weeks ago and they denied my application. They couldn\u2019t even call me, they just sent me some automated email.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tattoo lover, who currently makes a living through Uber Eats and social media platforms, says she \u2018absolutely\u2019 believes she was denied the role because of her tattoos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTJ Maxx did not say this to me \u2013 that\u2019s just what a lot of the comments on my video say,\u201d she added. \u201cPeople are being extremely hateful on my TikTok, saying I should work at a circus or Halloween stores.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many people have taken to the comments and suggested Putnam\u2019s tattoos may be why she\u2019s struggling to find employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One person writes: \u201cThere\u2019s tattoo\u2026 and then there\u2019s TATTOOS.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another adds: \u201cIt is the type of tattoos and the placement of them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI love tattoos. I have a lot of them. All are able to be hidden for work purposes,\u201d somebody else shares. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview with IGV, Putnam says the backlash from her viral TikTok video has solidified her decision to avoid customer service roles altogether.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She asserts: \u201cAt this point, I do not care.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Putnam, who is estimated to have spent over $10,000 on her inkings, advises others to \u2018think hard about what kind of tattoos you want.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A copy of the TJ Maxx dress code<\/a> has been shared on Reddit<\/a> \u2013 there\u2019s no mention of tattoos or piercings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The brand\u2019s Global Code of Conduct guide<\/a> states it is against basing \u2019employment-related decisions\u2019 on any \u2018status protected under applicable law.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether or not tattoos can have an impact on job offers remains a divisive topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Career coach Claire Brown tells the Metro<\/a>: \u201cThe placement and content of tattoos is important to consider as it can impact other\u2019s perceptions and first impressions of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
