Social media users have shared an unsettling X-ray that depicts the appearance of a tapeworm-infested body.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The image was posted on X by Sam Ghali from the University of Florida, who described it as one of the \u201cmost insane X-rays I\u2019ve ever seen.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The parasites can have camped within the person\u2019s body as a result of an unlucky error they made in the kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The infection, known as cysticercosis, can be contracted by transmission or by consuming raw or undercooked pork that has been contaminated with tapeworms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> (CDC) state that the parasite illness is \u201ccaused by the larvae (immature worm) of the tapeworm, Taenia solium.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA person gets cysticercosis by consuming tapeworm eggs. These eggs hatch and develop into larvae,\u201d<\/strong> they explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe larvae then penetrate (move through) a person\u2019s intestinal wall and move to tissues like muscle, eyes, or brain. This is where the cysts, or cysticerci, develop.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ghali in the video, the individual may have contracted cysticercosis via consuming raw or undercooked pork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But according to the CDC, \u201ccysticercosis does not spread from eating raw or undercooked pork\u201d<\/strong> on its own; the pork must first be infected with cysticerci.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also stated that the only way for humans to contract the virus is by consuming food or water tainted with tapeworm eggs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens if you get cysticercosis?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese cysts can travel anywhere throughout the entire body, heavily to the muscular and soft tissue of the hips and the legs,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Ghali stated.\u201cIf just in the pelvis, they don\u2019t pose a life-threatening problem.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe problem is if they travel to the brain and lodge there.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat can cause very serious issues. As you can imagine, that can lead to neurological symptoms like headaches, confusion, seizures and even death.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
