Just days before my due date, I was on the couch, battling back pain. My golden retriever, Rich, rested his head on my lap, sensing my discomfort. \u201cJake, we need to figure out what to do with Rich while we\u2019re at the hospital,\u201d I called. He casually reassured me, \u201cDon\u2019t stress. Mom loves Rich. She\u2019ll handle it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
