Elon Musk<\/a>\u00a0and Grimes have been forced to change their son\u2019s name by law.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Musk and Canadian musician Grimes, born Claire Boucher, began their relationship in 2018, making their public debut at the Met Gala that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They share three children: a son born in May 2020; a daughter, Exa Dark Sider\u00e6l, born via surrogate in December 2021; and another son, Techno Mechanicus, whose birth date remains private.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their relationship has been notably \u2018very fluid,\u2019 characterized by periods of togetherness and separation, per People<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 2021, Musk announced they were \u2018semi-separated,\u2019 yet Grimes later referred to him as her \u2018boyfriend\u2019 in early 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By March 2022, she confirmed another breakup, though she described Musk as her: \u201cbest friend and the love of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amid these personal developments, Grimes has publicly distanced herself from Musk\u2019s controversial actions per The Cut<\/a>, including denouncing fascism following Musk\u2019s Nazi-like salute<\/a> during a political event in January 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, a certain law has meant they had to change their firstborn\u2019s name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unique name was explained by Grimes in a tweet that broke down the meaning of the different letters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She shared on social media platforms: \u201cX, the unknown variable, \u00c6, my elven spelling of Ai (love &\/or Artificial intelligence).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grimes and Musk went on to welcome their second child in December 2021 through surrogacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The paid named her Exa Dark Sider\u00e6l and speaking with Variety, she explained that the name references the supercomputing term exaFLOPS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also added that Dark symbolizes \u2018the unknown\u2019 and \u2018the beautiful mystery of our universe\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Sider\u00e6l is pronounced \u2018sigh-deer-ee-el\u2019 and she claims that it represents \u2018the true time of the universe, star time, deep space-time, not our relative earth time\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grimes also explained that the name also honors her favorite Lord of the Rings character, Galadriel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
