A mom took to social media and explained why she doesn\u2019t allow her daughter\u2019s grandparents to kiss or hug her.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every parent has a routine or style when it comes to looking after their children, some may be firm but fair while others will try their best to be the child\u2019s best pal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there is one thing all parents can agree on, which is looking out for their kids and teaching them important life lessons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brittany Baxter, from Australia<\/a>, is teaching her daughter about consent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a\u00a0viral<\/a>\u00a0TikTok<\/a>\u00a0video, she explained that adults, including the child\u2019s grandparents, must ask her daughter for permission to kiss or hug her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the comments, she\u2019s being praised for teaching such an important lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fellow parent shared:\u00a0\u201cThis is so important! My husband and I are teaching consent as well. Recently, we started asking for hugs and kisses instead of saying \u2018Give me a hug.’\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another wrote: \u201cWorking on this with my two-year-old as well. We\u2019ve had to reduce his interactions with my mother as she does not respect this. I feel no guilt.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, others believe Baxter has taken her views too far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One viewer remarked: \u201cHow not to parent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weighing in, a second added: \u201cMy grandparents hugged and kissed me as they pleased and I have no issues telling someone to go away if I don\u2019t want to. This is just odd to me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the video, Baxter began by saying (per the Mirror): \u201cCan we please start normalizing the fact that kids do not have to kiss in front of adults?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She continued: \u201cMy daughter\u2019s almost two years old and I\u2019ve been in the process of teaching her consent basically since the day that she\u2019s been born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI find it really f***ing unhelpful when the adults in her life are like, \u2018What?! We have to ask for a kiss and a hug?\u2019 even though I\u2019ve explained why multiple times.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mom explained that her daughter doesn\u2019t \u2018exist to make anyone feel more comfortable,\u2019 adding: \u201cIt is not her fault and it\u2019s not my fault that the older generation haven\u2019t taken the time throughout their entire lives to learn how to regulate their emotions so consent doesn\u2019t continue to be overlooked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo one\u2019s feelings are ever going to be more important than my daughter\u2019s right to her own body and I\u2019m sure as s*** not going to allow her to grow up in an environment where, one, she doesn\u2019t know how to say no.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTwo, she doesn\u2019t know what it looks like for her not to be respected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She concluded her post by stressing that \u2018grandparents [need to] do better.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a follow-up video, Baxter explained how she deals with anyone who oversteps the boundaries she has with her child, saying she will tell people they\u2019re \u2018practicing family consent\u2019 and would appreciate it if they did the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
