As we observe the asteroid more, the impact probability will become better known.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Professor Brian Cox, the world may soon need to&nbsp;<strong>\u201cmake a decision\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;about the asteroid and whether a<strong>&nbsp;\u201cdeflection mission\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;is ready in case the collision becomes more likely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a post on X, the physicist wrote,<strong>&nbsp;\u201cInteresting situation\u2014if the probability remains this high then we will have to make a decision on preparing a deflection mission\u2014which would be a good investment even if (as is most likely) we don\u2019t need to use it this time.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It\u2019s as if the universe has decided to do an experiment to see if Planet Earth is still capable of taking rational decisions!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The asteroid tops both NASA\u2019s and ESA\u2019s impact risk lists, prompting a worldwide planetary defense response at the ESA for the first time in its history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to NASA, 2024 YR4 will be 130\u2013300 feet in diameter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As is frequently the case, the asteroid may be ruled out as an impact threat as further observations are conducted.
