Credit: @literateelf\/X<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In a piece for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/07\/05\/abrosexual-took-30-years-this-writer-realise-21172845\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Metro<\/a>, journalist Emma Flint said: \u201cWhen I tell people I\u2019m abros**ual, I\u2019m often met with confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cQuestions like, \u2018Is this even a real label?\u2019 or \u2018Why can\u2019t you just pick one?\u2019 are unfortunately common.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/go.ezodn.com\/ads\/charity\/proxy?p_id=2f24a6f9-ad95-4905-61e3-9eb188cbf9c4&amp;d_id=416127&amp;imp_id=5083340348561949&amp;c_id=1134&amp;l_id=10016&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fjoinourvillage.org%2Fdonate%2F&amp;ffid=1&amp;co=NG\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flint\u2019s journey began in the 1990s when awareness about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/igvofficial.com\/tag\/lgbtqi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LGBTQ+<\/a>&nbsp;identities was far less expansive than today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back then, s**ual orientations were often boxed into rigid categories like straight, gay, or lesbian. Anything outside of those labels was dismissed as either confusion or rebellion.<a href=\"https:\/\/go.ezodn.com\/ads\/charity\/proxy?p_id=2f24a6f9-ad95-4905-61e3-9eb188cbf9c4&amp;d_id=416127&amp;imp_id=8440087406509811&amp;c_id=1084&amp;l_id=10016&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazonconservation.org%2Ftake-action%2Fdonate%2F&amp;ffid=1&amp;co=NG\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI grew up feeling lost,\u201d Flint said. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t that I didn\u2019t know myself; it was that my identity kept shifting in ways I didn\u2019t know how to explain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The turning point for Flint came in 2020 when she stumbled upon an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/igvofficial.com\/tag\/instagram\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Instagram<\/a>&nbsp;post by Zoe Stoller, a social media educator dedicated to raising awareness about lesser-known LGBTQ+ identities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was like a light bulb went off,\u201d the journalist recalled. \u201cFinally, there was a term \u2013 abros**ual \u2013 that perfectly described what I had been experiencing all along.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/igvofficial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/GPj27DRWUAAGAKs-768x1024.jpeg?ezimgfmt=rs:670x893\/rscb1\/ng:webp\/ngcb1\" alt=\"Emma Flint\" class=\"wp-image-77584\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Coming out as abros**ual has presented challenges for Emma Flint. It explained why her attraction sometimes aligned with being a lesbian, only to shift toward bis**uality weeks later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/orientation.fandom.com\/wiki\/Abrosexual#:~:text=Abrosexual%20is%20a%20sexual%20orientation,%2C%20allosexual%2C%20asexual%2C%20etc.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">S**uality Wiki<\/a>, abros**uality is&nbsp;\u2018a&nbsp;s**ual orientation&nbsp;on the&nbsp;multis**ual&nbsp;spectrum in which one\u2019s s**uality is changing or fluid.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t indecisiveness or confusion,\u201d Flint emphasized. \u201cIt was simply how my identity naturally evolves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/go.ezodn.com\/ads\/charity\/proxy?p_id=2f24a6f9-ad95-4905-61e3-9eb188cbf9c4&amp;d_id=416127&amp;imp_id=1248182374561070&amp;c_id=1134&amp;l_id=10016&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fjoinourvillage.org%2Fdonate%2F&amp;ffid=1&amp;co=NG\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coming out as abro**ual, or s**ually fluid, however, hasn\u2019t been without challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The response was dismissive when Flint confided in a close friend about her newfound identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite such setbacks, the journalist has found support in other areas of her life.
