A woman is receiving support after coming out as abros**ual and sharing her story.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming to terms with one\u2019s identity can be a complex journey, especially when society struggles to acknowledge or understand it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For one woman, it took three decades of self-reflection and discovery to identify as abros**ual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a piece for the Metro<\/a>, journalist Emma Flint said: \u201cWhen I tell people I\u2019m abros**ual, I\u2019m often met with confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cQuestions like, \u2018Is this even a real label?\u2019 or \u2018Why can\u2019t you just pick one?\u2019 are unfortunately common.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flint\u2019s journey began in the 1990s when awareness about LGBTQ+<\/a> identities was far less expansive than today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back then, s**ual orientations were often boxed into rigid categories like straight, gay, or lesbian. Anything outside of those labels was dismissed as either confusion or rebellion.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI grew up feeling lost,\u201d Flint said. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t that I didn\u2019t know myself; it was that my identity kept shifting in ways I didn\u2019t know how to explain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The turning point for Flint came in 2020 when she stumbled upon an Instagram<\/a> post by Zoe Stoller, a social media educator dedicated to raising awareness about lesser-known LGBTQ+ identities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was like a light bulb went off,\u201d the journalist recalled. \u201cFinally, there was a term \u2013 abros**ual \u2013 that perfectly described what I had been experiencing all along.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Flint, abros**uality provided the clarity and validation she had long sought. It explained why her attraction sometimes aligned with being a lesbian, only to shift toward bis**uality weeks later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the S**uality Wiki<\/a>, abros**uality is \u2018a s**ual orientation on the multis**ual spectrum in which one\u2019s s**uality is changing or fluid.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t indecisiveness or confusion,\u201d Flint emphasized. \u201cIt was simply how my identity naturally evolves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming out as abro**ual, or s**ually fluid, however, hasn\u2019t been without challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The response was dismissive when Flint confided in a close friend about her newfound identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite such setbacks, the journalist has found support in other areas of her life. Friends and family members who were initially unfamiliar with abros**uality have made an effort to educate themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One persistent misconception is that being abros**ual complicates romantic relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flint refutes this notion, explaining that her s**ual fluidity doesn\u2019t affect her ability to love and commit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m attracted to the person, not their gender,\u201d she explained. \u201cMy identity might fluctuate, but it doesn\u2019t change my feelings for my partner.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, not everyone approaches the topic with the same openness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet Flint hopes a greater awareness will normalize abros**uality as just another facet of human diversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not about being trendy or different,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s about understanding that identities like mine are valid, even if they\u2019re unfamiliar to you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After 30 years of searching, Flint is no longer constrained by others\u2019 expectations or misunderstandings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
