 was late afternoon when 16-year-old Jake walked through the front door, cradling a baby in his arms. His mother, Sarah, looked up from the kitchen, her eyes widening in shock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJake, where did you get that baby?\u201d she demanded, rushing over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jake looked nervous but determined. \u201cMom, I found him alone in the park. There was no one around, and it was getting dark. I didn\u2019t know what else to do, so I brought him home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah\u2019s heart raced as she took in the sight of the baby, who looked to be only a few months old, wrapped in a blanket and blinking sleepily. She grabbed her phone and immediately called the police, explaining the situation. Within minutes, officers arrived at their house, and Jake explained how he\u2019d found the baby on a bench near the playground, bundled up but completely alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the officers, Officer Daniels, looked at Jake and said: \u201cI know what you did\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jake exhaled, relief flooding through him. Sarah placed a hand on her son\u2019s shoulder, grateful that the police weren\u2019t jumping to the worst conclusions. Instead, they were focused on helping find the baby\u2019s family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officer Daniels introduced himself more formally, explaining that they needed to take the baby to the local hospital to be sure the child was healthy and unharmed. \u201cWe\u2019ll have to notify Social Services as well,\u201d he added gently. \u201cThey\u2019ll check for any reports of a missing infant and make sure the baby is cared for properly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the living room, the tiny baby let out a small whimper. Jake looked down at the infant and realized that in the rush of everything, he hadn\u2019t even thought about the baby\u2019s name. He felt a strange ache in his chest. This tiny person was relying on him\u2014on them\u2014for safety. He couldn\u2019t explain it, but from the moment he saw the baby alone on that bench, he felt protective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah gathered a few things, including a spare diaper from an emergency kit she kept for neighborhood babysitting jobs. While she had no baby formula, she hoped the hospital would provide everything necessary. Another officer gently took the baby into their arms to carry him out to the squad car, but Jake hesitated. He cleared his throat, carefully letting the officer know, \u201cI\u2019ll come along if that\u2019s okay. I just want to make sure he\u2019s all right.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officer Daniels gave Jake a nod and gestured for him to follow. Sarah, still in a whirlwind of concern, decided she would drive closely behind the police car in her own vehicle. She didn\u2019t want Jake dealing with this alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once they arrived at the hospital, there was a sense of controlled chaos. A nurse took the baby\u2019s vitals, while a doctor gently examined him. Jake hovered in the hallway, his arms folded tight across his chest. His mom stood next to him, arms draped protectively around his shoulders. After a few minutes, the doctor stepped out and spoke to them in a low, reassuring tone. \u201cHe seems healthy,\u201d the doctor said. \u201cMaybe a little hungry, but otherwise fine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
