I never imagined writing something like this. Families should protect and love each other, but sometimes, those closest to us hurt us the most. I learned that the hard way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It started with a phone call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Joyce, sweetie\u2026 do you know where my jewelry is?” Grandma\u2019s voice trembled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I frowned. “What do you mean, Grandma?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“My wedding ring, my mother\u2019s pearls\u2026 they\u2019re all gone.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My stomach twisted. Grandma never misplaced things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Don’t worry, Grandma. I\u2019ll be right over.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She opened her jewelry box\u2014it was empty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Did anyone visit recently?” I asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She hesitated. “Sophia was here yesterday.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course. Sophia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She stole from Grandma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
