EB is rare, with only 8.2 cases per million live births in the U.S. Some people with milder forms don\u2019t experience symptoms until they start crawling or walking. His parents feared the worst when he was placed in a coma for 16 days while doctors fought to save him. His mother, Tayane Granda Orrinco, never left his side, praying for a miracle. Doctors recommended a tracheostomy, but Tayane believed her son could pull through without it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One day, while Tayane was taking a break, she received the call she feared but hoped for\u2014Guilherme had woken up.
