My wife Barbara and I had moved to Cedar Hills six months earlier after her cancer returned. It was a \u201cproper\u201d neighborhood\u2014no motorcycles, no noise. From day one, the HOA president, Howard, made it clear my bike didn\u2019t belong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barbara defended me until the end. She never asked me to change\u2014not in 50 years. She passed away holding my hand on a Tuesday. By Friday, I rode my Harley to her funeral, just as she would\u2019ve wanted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the service, I found my beloved bike tipped over and defaced. The same neighbors who pretended to care stood around, many looking unsurprised. I saw Howard across the lot, smirking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the damage, I rode home. I needed the road\u2014the freedom, the noise, the memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
