She pulled out both eyes with her fingers in front of a church, leaving herself permanently blind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now 26 and sober, Kaylee had been working at a restaurant while finishing her education. However, she was fired after repeatedly taking leftover food to feed a stray cat and her kittens, despite warnings. \u201cI gave my meal to the cat \u2014 I couldn\u2019t walk away knowing she was hungry,\u201d she told <em>The Mirror<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite losing her job, Kaylee remains hopeful. \u201cI live in peace knowing I followed my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She now wears prosthetic eyes and admits the adjustment is hard, but says, \u201cI\u2019d rather be blind than addicted.
