The tragedy has shaken communities across the state, yet amid the heartbreak, recovery efforts press on \u2014 with first responders, volunteers, and even local high school students stepping up to help rebuild what was lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Paul and Gail Cline, the storm turned their lives upside down and became a struggle to simply stay alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-i-see-an-arm-down-the-hallway\"><strong>\u201cI see an arm down the hallway\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As the winds howled outside, Paul and Gail held onto each other inside their bedroom \u2014 until the twister hit. According to their nieces, Taylor Baker and Brandy Bowman, the force of the tornado was so violent that it ripped off each of their opposite arms while they were still clinging together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2025\/05\/21085321\/dfr.jpg?resize=412%2C411&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-170217\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/aid-for-tornado-victims-recovery?attribution_id=sl:30ba18b2-22e9-4e7c-b9d5-101a861edb0a&amp;lang=en_US&amp;ts=1747673650&amp;utm_campaign=man_sharesheet_dash&amp;utm_content=amp13_c-amp14_t2-amp15_t2&amp;utm_medium=customer&amp;utm_source=sms&amp;v=amp14_t2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GoFundMe<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe said \u2018I need help. I see an arm down the hallway,\u2019\u201d Bowman recalled in an interview with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lex18.com\/news\/covering-kentucky\/they-lost-opposite-arms-holding-each-other-london-couple-hospitalized-after-tornado-rips-apart-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lex18<\/a>. \u201cWhich was actually Gail\u2019s arm that was shredded during the tornado. The doctors said where they lost opposite arms is because they were holding each other.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A neighbor heard the screams and rushed in to pull the couple out from the wreckage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-gail-on-life-support-paul-in-shock\"><strong>Gail on life support, Paul in shock<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While Paul has shown some signs of improvement, Gail\u2019s condition is critical. According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrtv.com\/us-news\/kentucky-couple-lost-their-arms-holding-each-other-as-tornado-tore-through-their-home?fbclid=IwY2xjawKacJtleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETBIeThza1lSbGlkNFhxNlgyAR4pSd3gCMZW_2F3-Jc-dH-ub9C77aPOxWx0GtFHogjdbmIa_ibAfKg6WGMDTw_aem_OZFcRzzBm8sdS7qkaBZcNA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WRTV,<\/a>&nbsp;Gail was placed in a medically induced coma and remains on life support. In addition to her missing arm, flying debris shattered her ribs, puncturing both lungs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baker says her uncle, who suffers from dementia, still doesn\u2019t fully grasp what happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All I can\u2019t get out of my head is just how terrified they both were,\u201d she said. \u201cI cannot imagine the fear that was going through their minds, but there\u2019s one thing about them \u2014 they are godly people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-generations-of-memories-now-gone\"><strong>Generations of memories \u2014 now gone<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The house that once stood strong had been in their family for generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Family vacation packages<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, it\u2019s a skeleton of shattered glass, torn insulation, and splintered wood. Yet somehow, among the ruins, some things remain eerily untouched \u2014 like a robe in their bedroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey were in this bedroom and you can see where stuff came through. This is where they were, and the neighbor came; he heard them screaming for help. So he came to help them.
