{"id":60577,"date":"2025-05-23T08:14:39","date_gmt":"2025-05-23T08:14:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pulsperry.com\/?p=60577"},"modified":"2025-05-23T08:14:41","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T08:14:41","slug":"two-college-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pulsperry.com\/?p=60577","title":{"rendered":"Two college students\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"580\" height=\"386\" src=\"https:\/\/pulsperry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-539.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-60578\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pulsperry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-539.png 580w, https:\/\/pulsperry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-539-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Two female college students have been found dead in their Wisconsin dorm room in a suspected murder-suicide, university authorities have said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelsie Martin and Hallie Helms, both 22, were found with gunshot wounds on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville campus on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Helms, an elementary education major, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Martin, a psychology major and assistant resident director, died from her injuries after being airlifted to a University of Wisconsin hospital, a statement from the university said on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Helms died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, a preliminary autopsy found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cops received a 911 call about an incident at Wilgus Hall, an on-campus dormitory, shortly before 4 p.m. Monday, UW-Platteville Police Chief Joe Hallman said Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A shelter-in-place order in the dormitory was lifted just after 5 p.m., he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students were seen running from the dormitory on Monday afternoon, Eric Sperduto, who lives in Wilgus Hall,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmtv15news.com\/2025\/05\/20\/statement-expected-investigation-into-uw-platteville-students-deaths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told WMTV<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A heavy law enforcement presence was also seen on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just really sad and just sad to think about the families that are affected by this and people that were their friends and stuff that, I guess, that are students just like me that are changed now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The loss of Martin, of Beloit, Wisconsin, and Helms, of Baraboo, Wisconsin, was mourned in a statement by UW-Platteville Chancellor Tammy Evetovich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPlease take the time to take care of yourself and others,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pulsperry.com\/?p=60441\">also read&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two female college students have been found dead in their Wisconsin dorm room in a suspected murder-suicide, university authorities have said.
