The now-former outdoor educator, 39, initially thought she had a bout of food poisoning, but when she hadn\u2019t fully recovered after eight weeks, she knew something more was going on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After several visits to her doctor, a CT scan and biopsies, Hind was diagnosed with a rare mucinous cancer called pseudomyxoma peritonei (or PMP), which affects about one in a million people. According to the Cleveland Clinic, PMP \u201cspreads by secreting mucin, a component of mucus, inside your abdominal cavity.\u201d Symptoms, which often develop slowly, can include abdominal distension and pain, nausea, loss of appetite and constipation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cancer cells spread beyond the abdominal cavity to other organs \u2014 which is what had happened in Hind\u2019s case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en33.usnews.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Rebecca-Hind-052425-5-455bd8708e7e404ca193eaa54645bb8d.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12191\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy the time they found it, I was pretty much riddled with it,\u201d she told The Telegraph, adding, \u201cIt was heartbreaking.
