A United States congressman from Georgia has nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.<\/p>\n
Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Georgia) announced that he wrote to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just nominated [President Trump] for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his historic role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran and preventing the world\u2019s largest state sponsor of terrorism from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet,\u201d Carter said on X.<\/p>\n
Carter\u2019s petition to Norwegian Nobel Committee Chair J\u00f8rgen Watne Frydnes stated that Trump\u2019s \u201cbold action\u2026in the face of this crisis\u201d directly led to him \u201cchampion[ing] peace through strength and facilitat[ing] a ceasefire framework that brought hostilities to a halt.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHis message of mutual respect and peace will now result in a full cessation of military activity, no further escalation and the preservation of thousands \u2014 if not millions \u2014 of lives throughout the Middle East and around the globe,\u201d Carter said of Trump\u2019s ceasefire negotiations. \u201cHis leadership at this moment exemplifies the very ideals that the Nobel Peace Prize seeks to recognize: the pursuit of peace, the prevention of war, and the advancement of international harmony.\u201d<\/p>\n
The nomination concluded that Trump\u2019s ceasefire efforts offered the world \u201ca glimpse of hope.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIn a region plagued by historical animosity and political volatility, such a breakthrough demands both courage and clarity,\u201d it reads. \u201cPresident Trump demonstrated both, offering the world a rare glimpse of hope.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Carter\u2019s nomination expressly states that there is a \u201cfull cessation of military activity\u201d in the region, Trump on Tuesday morning dropped an expletive while frustratingly describing how both Israel and Iran violated the agreement he brokered; however, he did say that the ceasefire was still \u201cin effect.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump had previously been nominated for the Peace Prize by a Ukrainian lawmaker in November 2024, according to Newsweek.<\/p>\n
That nomination, submitted by the head of Ukraine\u2019s parliamentary foreign committee, Oleksandr Merzhko, was withdrawn on Monday \u2013 a day before Carter\u2019s nomination was announced \u2013 after the lawmaker told the outlet that he had \u201clost any sort of faith and belief\u201d that Trump could broker a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.<\/p>\n
