These aren\u2019t instances of fame or large crowds, but of ordinary people making difficult decisions, stepping up quietly, or improving someone\u2019s life when it counted the most. The only person with me was my boyfriend, someone I had only been dating for two weeks. Still, curiosity got the better of me. I took out my phone and searched his name, not expecting much. His videos go viral. He has this \u201cexperiment\u201d where he dates or befriends people for a month, then shares his experiences online like some kind of social project.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1761866\" data-uid=\"0ef80\">\n<div id=\"mgw1761866_0ef80\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"mgbox card-media\" data-template-type=\"container\">\n<div class=\"mgheader\">\n<p>My world collapsed. I thought I had finally found the one, only to realize I was just content for his next post. I left him there at the airport without saying a word.<br \/>\nI never saw that stranger again, but I thank her with all my heart. She saved me before I fell even deeper.<\/p>\n<p>Story 2:<br \/>\nI was 18 and had just moved to NYC by myself, trying to adjust to the lifestyle there (having come from a small town in the South). It was my first time using the train, and I had no idea how to buy a MetroCard.<\/p>\n<p>So I\u2019m standing there at the only working machine, with a line of people behind me, trying to buy a card. I was a little frantic because I knew people were waiting. People in the line started yelling at me to \u201cHurry up!\u201d I started to get teary-eyed, which made me even more frantic.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1761866\" data-uid=\"166e4\">\n<div id=\"mgw1761866_166e4\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"mgbox card-media\" data-template-type=\"container\">\n<div class=\"mgheader\">\n<p>Then, this guy stepped out of the line and told everyone to chill out. He came up, showed me step by step what to do, and paid for a 12-ride card for me. He patted me on the back and told me, \u201cNext time someone yells at you, yell back, and they\u2019ll leave you alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At that moment, I didn\u2019t feel so alone. I thought I was going to be fired. What I didn\u2019t know is my coworker Jake had told HR I was helping him deal with a \u201cfamily emergency\u201d and vouched that I was working late hours off the books. It wasn\u2019t true \u2014 he just knew I was struggling to keep it together after a breakup.<br \/>\nHR let it slide. I got promoted six months later. Then she said, \u201cHappened to me once. Pay it forward,\u201d and left. I never saw her again.<\/p>\n<p>Story 6:<\/p>\n<p>Story 7:<br \/>\nMy first wife abandoned us when my son was an infant. It was rough, but I survived.<br \/>\nOne evening I was at dinner with some friends. I had to change the baby; there was no table in the men\u2019s room. I asked a lady leaving the ladies room if it was empty, and she checked for me, gave me the okay. While I was trying to get my diaper bag sorted, she came up and offered to change him.<\/p>\n<p>I told her I had it, but she insisted, and put her arm around me. Apparently, I\u2019d been holding in a breakdown the whole time, and she saw right through it. I cried for a minute while a total stranger changed my infant son, thanked her profusely, and went back to dinner with my friends carrying a little less weight on my shoulders. \u00a9 PrintError \/ Reddit<\/p>\n<p>Story 8:<br \/>\nFlying home after Basic Training to spend Christmas with my family, I found out the flight was overbooked and there was only one seat left. The couple in front of me were debating which of them should take it.<\/p>\n<p>The guy said, \u201cYou should take it, it\u2019s your family. I\u2019ll catch a later flight.\u201d Then the woman looked back, saw me, and asked where I was headed. I mentioned I was going home to see my pregnant wife and my family. It was a \u201cjoint project\u201d he said we had been working on \u2014 only, I hadn\u2019t done any of it.<br \/>\nHe did the research, wrote most of it, and left the last few pages blank. \u201cJust fill this in,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019ll pass you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I graduated on time. Still can\u2019t talk about it without crying.<\/p>\n<p>Story 11:<\/p>\n<p>Story 12:<br \/>\nWhen I was 15 or 16, my parents dropped me off at the mall to meet up with my girlfriend. We had a small argument, and she dumped me on the spot, literally running into the arms of some guy she knew\u2014right in front of me.<\/p>\n<p>I was emotionally wrecked and called my parents no less than 30 times, but I got no answer. I was about to start walking the 8 miles back home when a kid in the grade above me came up and asked what was wrong. He drove me home and made me feel like my life wasn\u2019t over.
