A woman who ignored a \u201cnormal\u201d mole on her arm ended up with 77 stitches to remove what was actually stage 2 melanoma \u2014 the deadliest type of skin cacer.<\/p>\n

Dublin mom Jane Murray, a self-professed \u201csun worshipper,\u201d says she ignored a mole on her arm because she thought it looked \u201cnormal,\u201d according to The Daily Mail. But in November 2024, a nurse friend shared her concerns about the mole, prompting the 46-year-old mom of one to see her doctor about the mark on her skin.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe doctor said they didn\u2019t know what it was, but they were going to send me to the hospital to remove it to be on the safe side,\u201d Murray said, according to the outlet. She had it removed on December 3 \u2014 but was then asked to return for further treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen she started telling me the diagnosis I didn\u2019t think she was talking to me,\u201d Murray, a personal trainer says; She was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma, which VeryWell Health explains is \u201cthe most dangerous\u201d form of skin cancer that can \u201cspread quickly to other organs if not detected early enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEarly treatment is essential,\u201d the outlet says. \u201cIf melanoma is found and treatment begins when it is confined to the primary tumor on the skin, the five-year survival rate is excellent, at 99.6%. But if it has spread to distant parts of the body (metastasized), the survival rates drop to around 35.1%.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Murray\u2019s case, she had to have some glands removed from her arm \u2014 and needed 77 stitches following the surgery to close the wound.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a whole big chunk of my arm. I woke up to a completely different outcome than what I had imagined,\u201d Murray said.<\/p>\n

The personal trainer says she regrets her time in the sun, admitting, \u201cI was a sun worshipper. I would sit in the sun, morning to night on my holidays.\u201d While she says she wore sunscreen, \u201cWhenever I had a free moment, I\u2019d be outside in the garden.\u201d<\/p>\n

But as she points out, \u201cA sun tan is gone two weeks after you get home from holiday.\u201d It\u2019s not \u201cworth it.\u201d<\/p>\n
