Donald Trump said he is \u201cgiving serious consideration\u201d to revoking Rosie O\u2019Donnell\u2019s U.S. citizenship in a social media post on July 12
\nO\u2019Donnell, who moved to Ireland in January, has long voiced her criticism of the president and his administration\u2019s policies
\nThe comedian posted several responses to Trump\u2019s message, calling him \u201cmentally ill\u201d and a \u201cdisgrace\u201d

\u201cBecause of the fact that Rosie O\u2019Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,\u201d Trump, 79, wrote in a social media post on Saturday, July 12.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
O\u2019Donnell, 63, posted several responses to Trump\u2019s threat about one hour later. On Instagram, the comedian shared a screenshot of Trump\u2019s post, writing, \u201cThe president of the USA has always hated the fact that I see him for who he is \u2014 a criminal con man sexual abusing liar out to harm our nation to serve himself.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2018This is why I moved to Ireland, she continued. \u201cHe is a dangerous old soulless man with dementia who lacks empathy compassion and basic humanity \u2014 I stand in direct opposition [to] all he represents \u2013 so do millions of others.\u201d
\n\u201cU gonna deport all who stand against ur evil tendencies \u2013 ur a bad joke who cant form a coherent sentence #nevertrump,\u201d O\u2019Donnell added.<\/p>\n
The A League of Their Own actress then shared a screenshot of her Instagram post on TikTok, writing that the president is a \u201cdisgrace to all our beautiful country stands for,\u201d and adding that he is a \u201cmentally ill untreated criminal.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHad u grown up in NY \u2013 as I did \u2013 u would know what a total fool he is. Add me to the list of people who oppose him at every turn [\u2026] It\u2019s now or never America,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

In a separate Instagram post, O\u2019Donnell posted a photo of Trump next to his former friend and disgraced late millionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison in 2019 after being charged with multiple offenses relating to the sex trafficking of minors.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou want to revoke my citizenship?\u201d she wrote in the post\u2019s caption. \u201cGo ahead and try. I\u2019m not yours to silence. I never was.\u201d<\/p>\n
O\u2019Donnell shared the photo amid the recent public outcry relating to Epstein\u2019s death \u2014 specifically the claims that the Trump administration grossly mishandled the investigation into the case and its aftermath.<\/p>\n
PEOPLE reached out to reps for O\u2019Donnell for further comment on Saturday, July 12, and was directed to the star\u2019s TikTok.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Donnell has been critical about Trump and his administration\u2019s policies on numerous occasions in the past.<\/p>\n
The former TV personality confirmed that she had moved to Ireland on Jan. 15 with her 12-year-old child Clay in a TikTok video posted in March.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Donnell stated at the time that she believed the decision was in the best interests of herself and Clay, while alluding to the Trump administration\u2019s stance on social issues.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know, I\u2019m happy. Clay is happy. I miss my other kids. I miss my friends. I miss many things about life there at home and I\u2019m trying to find a home here in this beautiful country, and when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that\u2019s when we will consider coming back,\u201d O\u2019Donnell said in the video.<\/p>\n

According to many prominent legal scholars, the 14th Amendment protects citizenship for all people born on U.S. soil \u2014 meaning that legally, Trump does not have the power to revoke New York-born O\u2019Donnell\u2019s citizenship, despite his most recent claim.<\/p>\n
