Wilawan Emsawat, 35, who is also known by the nickname Sika Golf, has been accused of secretly having romantic and sexual relationships with at least 13 monks. She\u2019s also facing charges for money laundering and handling stolen property.<\/p>\n

According to reports, Emsawat allegedly managed to collect nearly \u00a39 million by using intimate videos and pictures of her encounters with high-ranking monks to extort money from them.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n

Investigators from Thailand\u2019s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) say they found multiple videos and images on five of her mobile phones, showing her engaging in sexual activities with monks\u2014some of whom were still wearing their traditional orange robes.<\/p>\n

Out of the 13 monks believed to be involved, nine have already been forced to disrobe. Authorities expect that the number of monks implicated in the case may continue to grow as the investigation unfolds.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n

A senate committee has now proposed that having sex with monks should be considered a criminal offense. However, the idea has been met with pushback from those who argue that men should be held accountable for their own actions and choices.<\/p>\n

“The scandal exposes a system of lies and hypocrisy among top monks.”<\/em>\u00a0wrote Sanitsuda Ekachai, a respected columnist for the Bangkok Post.<\/p>\n

The public controversy first gained attention when Phra Thep Wachirapamok\u2014better known by many as Arch stepped down from his role as abbot of the Wat Tri Thotsathep Worawihan temple in Bangkok. His sudden departure in June was followed by him disappearing across the border into Laos.<\/p>\n

Soon after his exit, the real reason behind his disappearance came to light. The 53-year-old monk had reportedly been in a secret relationship with Wilawan, who claimed she was pregnant and demanded \u00a3179,000 from him.<\/p>\n

When he refused to give her the money, she exposed their affair to other monks at the temple. That revelation reportedly led to him fleeing the country in shame.<\/p>\n

Since law enforcement confiscated Wilawan\u2019s phones, several monks have confessed to having ongoing relationships with her. These admissions are serious, as they break the strict Buddhist rule of celibacy that monks are expected to follow.<\/p>\n

Authorities say all of the monks who were involved will now be required to disrobe as a result of violating these sacred vows.<\/p>\n

One monk even admitted that Wilawan gave him a car during their affair. However, things turned ugly when he found out she was also romantically involved with another monk at the same time.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n

After discovering her relationship with another monk, he confronted her. That\u2019s when she allegedly started blackmailing him for money.<\/p>\n

Officials from the Central Investigation Bureau believe that this case goes beyond just moral issues. They think it could involve serious financial crimes as well.<\/p>\n

Transaction records from Wilawan\u2019s bank accounts reportedly show a massive \u00a38.8 million flowing through over the past three years. Authorities suspect that a big chunk of that money may have come from temple funds.<\/p>\n
