Around midnight on Aug. 3, authorities say 41-year-old Kevin Moses Walker entered the Hatcher home with a large knife in a seemingly random act. Walker stabbed Holly before a violent struggle with Michael, who retrieved a pistol from his vehicle and fired one fatal shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The couple\u2019s son, 31-year-old rising country singer Spencer Hatcher, canceled several shows to grieve. Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson, a family friend whose son had Holly as a teacher, called the incident \u201chighly unusual\u201d in his 31-year career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walker, of Pikesville, Maryland, had no violent record. Days earlier, he crashed a car, rented a campsite at Endless Caverns, and bought a knife at Walmart. His motive remains unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rockingham County Public Schools remembered Holly as a beloved educator of 19 years. Michael thanked the community for its overwhelming support.
