The documentary delves into the life of former Premier League footballer Jlloyd Samuel, who played for Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers, and covers his death in a car crash in 2018, along with the secrets that emerged afterward.
Samuel’s wife, Emma, discovered that while he was playing in Iran, he had secretly married another woman. She even met this woman once in Dubai, where Jlloyd introduced her as a fortune teller, not revealing that she was actually his second wife.
Despite his death in 2018, some believe that Jlloyd is still alive. The crash occurred on the morning of May 15, 2018, when the 37-year-old Samuel was driving home from dropping his children off at school. His Range Rover collided head-on with a van and exploded into flames, burning his body so badly that dental records were required for identification.
Helia Sahimi, the woman Jlloyd secretly married in Iran, believes he is still alive. During the production of The Footballer, His Wife, and the Crash, she stated, “I believe my husband is still alive.”
Jlloyd’s sister, Leslie-Ann Samuel, has claimed that he was not behind the wheel of the Range Rover at the time of the crash, alleging that her brother’s death was faked. She also said she was denied the chance to have DNA from the body privately tested. The DNA samples belonged to Samuel’s next of kin, his wife Emma, who, according to the documentary, agreed to hand them over, but they were never collected by Leslie-Ann.

An inquest into the footballer’s death found that he was considerably over the drink-driving limit, though it was noted by a toxicologist that the body can sometimes produce alcohol after death. Additionally, his car was found to have been on the wrong side of the road.
Emma has also spoken about being accused of having something to do with her husband’s fate, saying, “Leslie-Ann approached me and said, ‘I know you’ve got something to do with this and I’m going to get to the bottom of it.’ And that’s when the accusations all started being published on Instagram – ‘it’s a fake death and I’ve got something to do with it’; ‘he’s still alive and I’ve got something to do with his disappearance’.”
