A woman (34F) shared her experience on a flight where she was accused of being selfish for purchasing an extra seat due to her size. She explained that she is actively working on losing weight but still faces challenges in fitting comfortably into one seat. To avoid any discomfort for both herself and others, she decided to pay for an additional seat on her flight to visit her brother for Christmas.
However, things took an uncomfortable turn when an entitled mother with an 18-month-old child boarded the plane and insisted the woman squeeze into one seat so her child could sit in the second seat. Despite the woman explaining that she had paid for both seats to ensure more space, the mother continued to demand the extra seat for her child. The situation escalated, drawing the attention of a flight attendant, who asked the woman if she could squeeze in, but she refused, citing her right to the seat she paid for.
The flight attendant eventually sided with the woman, telling the mother to have her child sit on her lap. Throughout the flight, the mother gave passive-aggressive remarks and dirty looks, leading the woman to feel conflicted. She asked if she was in the wrong for standing her ground and not giving up the extra seat for the child.
