Poor, balding, and all by one’s lonesome.
A “werewolf” had been waiting by the roadside for months.
His scales were hard, and his tail was broken and pointed.
What little remaining black fur he had sprang up on its own at the nape of his neck and was in disarray.

In Madera Ranchos, California, a starving, sick dog was spotted wandering an orchard. Because of his frightening appearance, locals avoided him and nicknamed him the “Werewolf.” No one dared to approach until one woman stopped, stayed by his side, and posted about him on Facebook. Soon, rescuer Megan Bowe arrived.

“When I saw him, I was ready to cry,” Megan said. The dog, later named King, was emaciated, suffering from mange, a broken pelvis, and a badly injured tail. Despite his condition, King was gentle and grateful, resting his head lovingly on Megan.

Veterinarians believe he had been hit by a car months earlier. Unable to move well, he grew weak and dehydrated. Megan carefully nursed him back with a controlled diet, medical treatment, and surgeries to repair his pelvis and tail.
Today, King is thriving—he enjoys walks, car rides, and doggy ice cream. His transformation from “Werewolf” to loving companion is remarkable. Megan hopes to find him a forever home once he’s fully healed.
His story proves that one act of kindness can change a life
