Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials are placing blame on California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) after an illegal alien trucker, licensed in California, was charged in a Florida crash that killed three Americans earlier this month.
Authorities say Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant from India, was driving a semi-truck in St. Lucie County when he made an illegal U-turn, colliding with a vehicle and killing three people. Singh has been arrested and charged with three counts of vehicular homicide. Video of the crash shows Singh making the turn and showing no reaction as the victims’ car struck his truck.
In California, Singh was able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) under a law first enacted in 2013 and later expanded by Newsom. By 2023, state officials had issued licenses to over one million illegal immigrants.
DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin blasted Newsom, calling the policy “asinine” and demanding accountability. Newsom’s office claimed the Trump administration allowed Singh’s licensing, but DHS countered that his work authorization was rejected in 2020 and later approved under the Biden administration. ICE has placed a detainer to keep Singh in custody.
