Thirteen-year-old Owen Burns was about to play “Call of Duty: Black Ops II” when he heard his 8-year-old sister scream outside their Alpena Township, Michigan home. At first, he thought she was joking—until he looked out and saw a stranger dragging her toward the woods.
Panicked, Owen grabbed his $3 slingshot and fired the only ammo he had: a marble and a rock. His aim was perfect. The marble struck the attacker square in the forehead; the rock hit his chest. Cursing, the would-be kidnapper loosened his grip, and Owen’s sister ran free.

Police later confirmed the suspect, a 17-year-old male, will be charged as an adult for attempted kidnapping and assault. He bore visible injuries from Owen’s shots, which officers described as “consistent with slingshot strikes.”

Their mother, Maggie, said she struggled to believe her son’s heroic tale until police confirmed the attacker’s bruises. Lt. John Grimshaw called Owen’s actions “extraordinary,” crediting him with saving his sister’s life.
