A tragic accident on the Eastern Highway claimed the life of Ruth Delania Sosa Marte, a beloved resident of Barrio Lindo, San Pedro de Macorís. The crash occurred on March 12, 2025, at kilometer 10 in the Cumayasa area, sparking renewed concern over road safety in the Dominican Republic.
Authorities reported that a gray Mazda Demio traveling from east to west carried three passengers: driver Angela Merici Ubiera Sosa, her companion Maribel Sosa Polanco, and Ruth. The collision proved fatal for Ruth, while Angela and Maribel were hospitalized with serious injuries in La Romana. Forensic doctor Dr. Benito Kelly oversaw the removal of Ruth’s body, and the damaged vehicle was transferred to Digesett headquarters for investigation.
Officials are examining potential causes, including speeding, distraction, or mechanical failure. The Dominican Republic continues to face one of the highest accident rates in the region, often linked to reckless driving and poor road conditions.
Ruth’s sudden death has left a deep void in Barrio Lindo, where neighbors remember her kindness and generosity. Community members now mourn together, calling for reflection and safer roads to prevent future tragedies.
