In Indianapolis, a troubling case has drawn national attention after Officer Travis Lewis of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was charged with official misconduct and two counts of battery. The February 2022 incident centers on allegations that Lewis used an extreme “pain compliance” tactic on a handcuffed suspect.

According to court documents, the suspect was restrained when Lewis allegedly grabbed and squeezed his genitals to force compliance. Witnesses reported the suspect cried out in pain, leading to a formal complaint. An internal investigation followed, resulting in criminal charges.
Community leaders and civil rights advocates have condemned the tactic as excessive and abusive, pointing out that targeting sensitive areas is not consistent with professional policing standards. Legal experts noted that while officers may use pain compliance in limited situations, the alleged method crossed ethical and legal boundaries.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office charged Lewis with felony misconduct and two misdemeanor counts of battery. He has been placed on administrative leave pending trial.
The case has reignited debates on police accountability, training reforms, and the urgent need to restore public trust in law enforcement practices. also read…..
