After four days adrift in the Mediterranean, a 39-year-old British woman has been found alive after vanishing during a solo boating trip in Spain. Identified locally as Mary Gavin, she had rented a 15-foot motorboat from the port of La Savina in Formentera on Wednesday evening but never returned as scheduled. Concerned friends alerted authorities, triggering a large-scale search effort involving Spanish coastguard vessels, helicopters, Civil Guard divers, and police teams.
On June 22, at around 5 p.m., a passing boat spotted her drifting between Ibiza and Valencia. She was rescued and taken to a hospital in Valencia for treatment, though her current condition has not been disclosed. Authorities later confirmed her survival but have not released further details.
Meanwhile, the hired vessel, a Quicksilver 475 Axess with a Mercury outboard motor, was transported back to Ibiza by the coast guard. The search operation, which spanned several days, highlighted the risks of solo outings at sea and the dedication of rescue teams. For many, Gavin’s survival after such an ordeal is being regarded as nothing short of miraculous.
