A priest once offered a nun a ride back to the convent. The nun accepted the kind gesture, stepped into the car, and as she sat down, she crossed her legs. In doing so, the edge of her long gown slipped slightly, exposing a part of her leg. The sight was enough to distract the priest so badly that he nearly lost control of the car and caused an accident.
He managed to regain his composure, but temptation had already crept into his mind. As he continued driving, he slowly and discreetly allowed his hand to slide up the nun’s leg. Calmly, but firmly, the nun spoke:
“Father, remember Psalm 129?”
Startled and embarrassed, the priest quickly withdrew his hand. He tried to focus back on the road, but soon after, as he shifted gears, his hand once again wandered and rested higher on her leg. The nun, in the same calm tone, repeated:
“Father, remember Psalm 129?”
Ashamed, the priest apologized softly. “Forgive me, sister. The flesh is weak.”
They finally arrived at the convent. The nun let out a long sigh, shook her head gently, and walked away without another word.
The priest, however, could not shake his curiosity. As soon as he returned to the church, he rushed to open his Bible to Psalm 129, eager to see what it said. His eyes widened when he read the words:
“Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory.”
Moral of the story: If you are not well informed in your job, or in life, you might miss out on great opportunities!
Another day, little Johnny was preparing to visit his father’s house. Being a mischievous and determined boy, he decided he wanted to take all his belongings with him. So, he carefully packed up everything from his room and placed it inside his small red wagon. With effort, he tugged it along behind him as he walked.
Soon he came to a steep hill. Straining and pulling with all his might, Johnny became frustrated. Under his breath—and sometimes out loud—he kept muttering, “This damn thing is so heavy!”
Coincidentally, a priest happened to be walking nearby. Hearing Johnny’s language, he quickly approached and said, “Young man, you shouldn’t be swearing. Remember, God hears you no matter where you are. He is everywhere… He is in the church, He is on the sidewalk, He is in the trees, and yes, He is everywhere.”
Johnny eyed the heavy wagon and quipped, “Well then, tell Him to get out and start pulling!” At Saint Mary’s, Luigi shared the secret of fifty years of marriage: he once took his wife to Italy. Asked about his 50th anniversary, he grinned, “This time, I’m gonna go get her.” Later, Romi told a doctor his sister thought she was a lift—“But she doesn’t stop at this floor.”
