A house fire is a nightmare for anyone, but this time the victim is far from ordinary.
On Saturday, the home of a South Carolina judge was destroyed after it went up in flames.
This happened just weeks after she ruled against Donald Trump’s Department of Justice.
This past weekend, tragedy struck in Edisto Beach, South Carolina, when Judge Diane Goodstein’s $1.5 million home was burned to the ground.
St. Paul’s Fire District responded to the scene on October 4, reporting that the first crews on site “worked flawlessly together to ensure the safety of the occupants which escaped via jumping from an elevated first floor.”
Clips shared on social media captured massive flames tearing through the oceanfront home, with thick smoke billowing high into the sky.

BREAKING: South Carolina Judge Diane Goodstein's home is burning to the ground after an apparent explosion.
A devastating house fire in South Carolina has left three people hospitalized, including former Democratic state senator Arnold “Arnie” Goodstein, husband of Circuit Judge Carmen Mullen Goodstein. Due to the home’s remote location, rescuers evacuated the family using kayaks. Officials say the victims sustained injuries after escaping through windows and balconies. Judge Goodstein was reportedly on the beach when the explosion occurred.
Chief Justice John Kittredge confirmed the blaze stemmed from an “apparent explosion,” though investigators haven’t determined whether it was accidental or deliberate. The incident comes weeks after Judge Goodstein blocked the Trump DOJ from accessing personal data of 3.3 million South Carolina voters, citing privacy violations.
The timing has fueled speculation online, with Democratic Congressman Daniel Goldman accusing Trump ally Stephen Miller of inciting threats against judges. Miller fired back, calling Goldman’s remarks “vile” and claiming the left promotes political violence. Goldman retorted, demanding Miller condemn all violence, not just attacks on Trump supporters.
SLED continues investigating the fire, calling the probe “active and ongoing.”
