Regrettably, as per statistics, when a child is born with special characteristics, parents often choose to abandon them. Our story’s protagonist, Vasilina, experienced this firsthand from her biological mother. However, in a world with compassionate people, a different fate awaited her.
Vasilina, with her uniquely beautiful name, grows and develops like any other child, but with a distinctive physical feature. During fetal formation, her left hand did not develop, and on her right hand, there was a small appendage with two fingers.
Recognizing the challenges of raising such a child, her biological mother decided to abandon her. Fortunately, Vasilina’s story reached well beyond her hometown.
Chris and Elmira Knutsen, a married couple with three children (one of whom was adopted), learned about Vasilina and couldn’t bear to see her in distress.
They decided to adopt her, navigating the complex and time-consuming legal process. The couple’s eldest son also had physical disabilities.
While walking together, the Knutsen children sometimes face hurtful comments from strangers. Yet, their parents have instilled in them the wisdom not to react to such negativity.
Vasilina now thrives in a loving and caring family, exploring the world with happiness and making remarkable progress. A heartfelt salute to her adoptive parents for their enormous and compassionate hearts.
