The World’s Tallest Woman Shares Her

In early 2022, Rumeysa Gelgi, then 24, was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the tallest living woman. Born in Karabük province, Turkey, her extraordinary height is caused by Weaver Syndrome, a rare condition that accelerates growth and skeletal development. Gelgi primarily relies on a wheelchair for mobility, though she can walk short distances, and she needs a stretcher for longer journeys, such as air travel. Her remarkable stature has made her a global figure and a symbol of resilience.

Gelgi first gained international attention in 2014 when she was named the world’s tallest teenager. Since then, she has used her platform to advocate for people with rare conditions and disabilities. Following her recognition as the tallest woman, she shared an inspiring message about self-acceptance and potential, encouraging others to embrace their differences and transform perceived disadvantages into strengths. Her words reflect a belief that being unique is not something to fear but to celebrate.

In addition to her height, Gelgi holds several other Guinness World Records connected to her syndrome. These include records for the longest finger of a living female, the largest female hands, and the longest female back. Despite the challenges posed by her size, Gelgi radiates warmth and positivity, earning admiration and affection from people around the world who celebrate both her achievements and her personality.

Traveling long distances has presented one of Gelgi’s greatest challenges. Flying by plane required meticulous planning and special accommodations, including a stretcher for the journey. Sharing her experience on Instagram, she expressed gratitude to the airline crew for making her first flight smooth and memorable, even celebrating the milestone with a “first flight” event above the clouds. This experience reinforced her determination to continue exploring and embracing new opportunities.

Gelgi credits her positive outlook to her parents, who taught her from an early age that she has a syndrome rather than an illness, and that she doesn’t need to be “fixed.” This mindset helped her overcome bullying and approach life with confidence. Now in her mid-twenties, she continues to inspire, recently appearing in LadBible’s “That’s My Beauty,” where she received widespread praise for her striking appearance and self-assurance, demonstrating that her differences are among her greatest strengths.
