Tragic Accident in Ipameri Claims Young Student’s Life

On Tuesday afternoon, August 5th, the city of Ipameri, Goiás, was shaken by a heartbreaking tragedy. A school van overturned on a rural road, leading to the death of a 9-year-old girl, Celina Victoria Frões Muniz Goes. The accident happened about 35 kilometers away from the main paved road, in an area known as Mata do Calixto.

According to Police Chief Diogo Ferreira, the van involved in the accident belonged to an independent school transportation provider in the countryside. Following the tragedy, Ipameri City Hall expressed deep sorrow and declared three days of mourning in memory of the young student, Celina. The Nossa Senhora de Fátima Municipal School, where she studied, suspended classes to honor her, and teachers joined the secretary of education at her wake and burial in Caldas Novas.

Fire Department Major Rodrigo André reported that five children and the driver were inside the van at the time. Celina’s younger brother suffered a minor bruise, while the driver sustained a small scratch but refused medical help. After the vehicle rolled over, the driver managed to pull Celina from beneath it. Authorities confirmed that he was properly licensed, and an official investigation is underway.

Celina’s death has left the entire city of Ipameri in mourning. City officials emphasized the need for safer school transport and stricter inspections to prevent similar tragedies. Her passing stands as a heartbreaking reminder to prioritize the protection of every child.
