A normal morning in Madera County, California, turned into chaos when farmworkers Carlos Perea Romero and Angel Zarco spotted smoke pouring from a school bus carrying over 20 children. Without hesitation, they rushed toward the burning bus, pulling students out one by one as flames spread rapidly. Moments after the last child escaped, the bus exploded. Thanks to their bravery, every child survived. Later honored by county officials, the humble rescuers said they were “just in the right place at the right time” — everyday heroes whose courage turned tragedy into hope.
