Actor Matthew McConaughey opens up about why he decided to leave Hollywood and surprises his fans…
Matthew McConaughey recently shared why he chose to leave Hollywood and relocate to Texas, a decision that has surprised many of his fans. In an appearance on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna on October 24, McConaughey explained that he moved to Austin in 2014 for personal reasons, despite Hollywood being the hub of his industry. He emphasized that Texas, especially Austin, offers a unique sense of time and space that he values, where “60 seconds feel like a minute, and a mile feels like a mile.” McConaughey, who was born in Uvalde and raised in Longview, wanted his family—particularly his wife, Camila Alves, and their three children—to grow up with the same sense of community and security he experienced.
McConaughey also highlighted the importance of family, noting that his mother and brothers live in Texas, and the state offers a supportive backbone for them. He described Austin as a creative yet structured city, where the “Be You” attitude is a core principle. This move allowed McConaughey to maintain closer ties to his roots while raising his family away from the Hollywood spotlight.
