If you’ve ever struggled to identify your luggage at an airport, you’ve probably tied a ribbon to your suitcase. However, a Dublin Airport baggage handler named John warns that this could cause more harm than good.
John explains that ribbons can interfere with the bag’s scanning process. If the scanner can’t read your bag, it may be manually processed, which could cause delays or even prevent your luggage from making the flight. To avoid this, he suggests removing old travel stickers and tying nothing onto your suitcase.
Additionally, John advises against packing marzipan in your luggage because its density is similar to some explosives, which could lead to a security check and delay your trip. Lastly, always ensure your suitcase is placed wheels side up to prevent damage.
Instead of ribbons, consider choosing luggage in bright colors or patterns to make it stand out. Or use fabric paint or stickers that won’t disrupt the scanning process.
