A Texas family is rejoicing after their 7-year-old son survived being thrown by a deadly tornado in Abilene, Texas. The Lambert family shared their story with KWTX-TV, recalling the terrifying day when they were hiding in a closet as a tornado ripped through their neighborhood, completely destroying their house.
“We could hear the nails coming out of the boards and metal being ripped, but that’s all we could hear,” said Kasey Lambert, the mother. During the chaos, Kasey lost her grip on her son, Lane. “Lane got sucked up in the tornado,” explained Kasey’s cousin, Bradye, who set up a GoFundMe page for the family. “They couldn’t hold him down. It sucked him up and he flew like 25 feet. They thought he was gone.”
Miraculously, Lane landed on a pile of insulation from another destroyed home, surviving the terrifying ordeal. Lane, however, was most upset about missing his spelling test and baseball tournament.
The family was also affected by the tornado, with Allie, the younger daughter, suffering only minor scratches, and Wes and Kasey sustaining various injuries. Despite the devastation, the family is thankful to be alive. “It is an absolute miracle,” Kasey said. “It was strong enough that we shouldn’t have been able to walk away.”
The aftermath was captured on camera by storm chaser Freddy McKinney, who rescued the family and drove them to the hospital. Every member of the Lambert family, including their dog, received medical treatment. While their home was destroyed, the family remains thankful for their survival.
