Apple snails are a highly invasive species that pose significant threats to local ecosystems, especially when their bright pink eggs are found in gardens or waterways. Native to South America, these snails have spread across the globe and are now wreaking havoc on plants, crops, and natural habitats. Popular in aquariums for their unique appearance and size—some growing as large as 6 inches—apple snails typically don’t harm aquarium plants, which contributes to their appeal. However, outside of controlled environments, they cause significant environmental damage by consuming aquatic vegetation and harming agricultural crops.
